Oatmeal Apple Cereal

Oatmeal

Suitable for: 4 months to 6 months old baby

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 small apple
  • 1/4 cup ground oats
  • 3/4 cup water

 

Cooking Method and Preparation:

Step 1: Peel, core and cut a small apple into small dices

Step 2: Place in a pan with 1/4 c ground oats and 3/4 c water

Step 3: Bring mixture to a slow boil. Simmer covered, checking frequently, until apples are soft and oatmeal is cooked

Step 4: Be sure to stir and mash while cooking

Step 5: Mix in formula or breast milk or juice to thin if needed – puree if necessary

Extra: You can put sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for older babies.

Benefits of Oatmeal Apple Cereal:

Apple contains both insoluble and soluble fiber, which can help maintain bowel regularity.

Apples can promote cardiovascular health by lowering cholestrol. It is also high in fibre. Furthermore, it maintains lung health and promote your baby's prostate, liver and colon health.

It also promotes bone health, by providing a good source of the dietary mineral boron.

Oatmeal is high in fiber, calcium, protein and even some B vitamins.

 

Remarks:

Cooking can affect heat-sensitive nutrients, but overall, the nutritional value of cooked apples is relatively similar to that of fresh apples. Also, cooked apples are better tolerated by babies with a sensitive digestive tract because of their increased digestibility.
